Real estate and wellness tech entrepreneur Yaacov Afik is a board member and donor of a cancer patient association; contributing to the wellness of others is his priority and gives him immense satisfaction. HYGEAR
HYGEAR products are designed to make smart fitness equipment affordable and accessible to all, providing a personalised workout that the user can take with them wherever they are. The HYGEAR app acts as a personal fitness hub, enabling users to track real-time metrics such as weight, calorie burn and repetitions and access hundreds of free exercise demos and workouts. The app can also help its users to stay motivated through rewards that are earned when milestones or streaks are achieved and features a DIY Training Builder to create a bespoke exercise routine.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu
Mr Afik is a keen practitioner of Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) and is a brown belt in this sport. BJJ is a combat sport and self-defence martial art based on submission holds, ground fighting and grappling. First developed in 1925, the sport has become a defined combat sport through the practices, innovations and adaption of judo and Gracie jiu-jitsu and is now an essential martial art for modern MMA. Mr Afik is a two-time International Jiu-Jitsu Federation European Champion.
Wellness
In his daily routine, Mr Afik works hard to maintain a balance between professional rigour and physical vitality. As well as BJJ, he regularly undertakes activities including meditation and cold-water therapy, the latter of which involves taking ice baths after exercise. He finds this regime both rejuvenates him and sharpens his drive and focus, and today he is more determined than ever before to connect with like-minded individuals and inspire them to embark on their own journeys towards success.
Meditation can deliver a plethora of benefits, including reducing stress, alleviating anxiety and promoting better emotional health.
Enhanced self-awareness, improved sleep and a boosted attention span have also been connected with the practice, which may even help to reduce age-related memory loss.
A father of three, Mr Afik enjoys reading, surfing, Middle Eastern cuisine and traveling; he has visited countries all over Europe, as well as the Dominican Republic, Panama, Sri Lanka and India.
